Lee Tunstall

McALESTER — Lee Tunstall, 67, of the Crowder area, died Nov. 10, 2012, at his residence.

Family will receive visitors Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Krebs.

A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Anderson as celebrant.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church. Father Jim Caldwell will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

He was born July 13, 1945, in Tulsa, the son of Hugh Jackson and Fannie Marie Hickman Tunstall. In 1966, he met his wife of 44 years, Donna, while working at St. John’s hospital in Tulsa. They were married in McAlester on Dec. 28, 1967, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church. They resided in Oklahoma City while he completed his undergraduate work at Central State College in Edmond graduating with a degree in Chemistry.

He had one daughter, Monica. He worked at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and then at Dayton Tire and Rubber as a chemical engineer.

In 1978, he became the manager for the laboratory at Technical Services and Quality Control division of Polson Rubber Company in McAlester. He later went to work for the State of Oklahoma as an registered sanitarian for the Oklahoma State Department of Health in Pittsburg County.

He attended the University of Oklahoma Graduate School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science and graduated with a Master’s degree in Environmental Science. When the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality was formed he transferred to the Department and retired from State service in 2006 with 25 years of service.

He was a longtime member of the Tulsa Glue Dobbers model aircraft organization and served as the reporter for a number of years. He also won numerous awards in competition flying in Oklahoma and surrounding states. In his retirement years, Lee enjoyed photography and reading. Lee was also a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.

He was survived by his wife Donna Tunstall, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Monica and James Groesbeck, of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren Austin Burns and Abigail Groesbeck, of Oklahoma City; sisters, Nona Harris and husband, J.D. of Coffeyville, Kan.; Jody Dale amd husband, Don, of Kimberling City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Jeanie Tunstall, of Henderson, Nev.; numerous nieces and nephews, father-in-law Francis Nishimute, of McAlester; sister-in-law, Ramona Conly and husband, Doug, of Boulder, Colo.; brothers-in-law, John Nishimuta and wife, Bea, of Blairsville, Ga., and Gary Nishmuta and wife, Diane, of Van Buren, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Don Tunstall and his mother-in-law, Fern Nishimuta.

Pallbearers are James Groesbeck, Austin Burns, Kevin Nishimuta, Jaret Twist, Doug Conly, David Conly, Joel Morgan and Christopher Angel.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Nishimuta, Gary Nishmuta, Kent Wilkins, Denton McNutt, Don Bradish, Gary Burnett, Carey Bell, Rick Manley, Matt Pace and J.D. Harris.

The family requests memorial be made to The American Association of True Life of God, P.O. Box 4138, Independence, MS 64051-4138.
