The Dixie Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, had its monthly meeting at the McAlester Public Library.

Jean Evans, of the General Clement A. Evans Chapter in Tulsa, was a guest. She is also the state chairman of the committee on patriotic activities.

She was at the meeting to commend President Charleen Samuels for her efforts in collecting books and personal items for the veterans at the Talihina Veterans’ Hospital.

Margaret Gragg gave the financial report.

Melissa Whitehouse gave the program on Gettysburg and Gen. Robert E. Lee.

A unique Thanksgiving lunch was provided by Nina Fereday and Amy Reimer.

Jacque Nicholson and Lois Eddington were invited to become associate members in appreciation of their special contribution to the chapter.

Kiddin’ Around Academy one of top ten Relay For Life teams in Oklahoma
(McAlester, OK) — Team Captain, Valerie Lalli, and her Relay For Life team members from Kiddin’ Around Academy in McAlester are set to be recognized during a lunch celebration Tuesday for raising more than $21,000 for the American Cancer Society during the 2011 Relay For Life season.

Annual Tea held by Kilihoti Chapter
The Kilihoti Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Aug. 13 at First Baptist Church in McAlester for their annual coffee and tea. Deborah Stone, her husband, Chris Stone, and her mother, Joyce Hale, were hosts for the event, which offered an assortment of sandwiches, sweets and a decorated cake.
