DAR Meeting

McALESTER —  

The monthly of the Kilihoti Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held Saturday, February 16 at Angel's Diner in McAlester.  James Ward was the guest speaker and spoke on early slavery in the United States and different events in American History which has renounced slavery and Blacks in American the opportunity to be equal citizens with all the rights and privileges of the white citizens. 

Ward served in the Sea Bees in World War II and earned the G.I. Bill upon his discharge. He and one other black man were chosen to attend Princeton and earned their bachelor degrees there. Ward then attended Law school in the East and later lived and worked in Texas concentrating on civil rights.  Pictured from left are Regent Carole Moore and James Ward. Tammy Hinton and Jennifer Tarrant were chosen to be our voting delegates at the Oklahoma  State Daughter's of the Daughters of the American Revolution which will be held in Norman in April.  

Nancy Downing served as hostess for the meeting. The tables were decorated in a  Valentine motif with candy cups filled with sweets. Members attending the meeting were Linda Collier, Tammy Hinton, Susanna Hunt, Janet Bailey, Martha Gujda, Pat Burger, Betty Sanders, Jennifer Tarrant, Carole Moore, Deborah Stone, Nancy Downing, Mollie Shannon, Johanna Stone and Laura Cook.  Guests at the meeting were James Ward, Charlie Hale, Joyce Hale and Bernice Kennedy. The next chapter meeting will be held on March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Angel's Diner in McAlester. Jennifer Tarrant will give the program on Daughters in the American Revolution and the part they played during this conflict.     Pittsburg County Little League awarded it’s first MVP Certificate of Appreciation award to Irby Construction. Irby Construction has made multiple donations to PCLL during and after the field was nearly destroyed due to vandalism.

  • Wiffleball Wall Wiffleball

    Pictures from  a wiffleball game Friday afternoon in Krebs. The  Pittsburg County Little League will host a Wiffleball Tournament Saturday, March 23 at Little Fenway in Krebs. Entry fee will be $125 per a five man team. Prizes awarded to the top two team during the double elimination tournament. Sixty percent of the entries, up to and $750 go into the prize pool and 40 percent will be donated to the PCLL. All equipment provided. For more information conatact 918-421-0578.

    March is American Red Cross Month, a special time to recognize and thank those who volunteer, donate blood, take life-saving courses or provide financial donations to support an organization whose mission is to help those in need.
