McALESTER —
The skeletal remains of two people were found on Lake Eufaula Monday morning, according to Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns.
The Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department and John Graham of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation were at the scene Monday morning.
Two skulls, teeth, pelvic bones and other remains were found partially buried on the shore of an area that recently surfaced on Lake Eufaula, according to the sheriff.
He said because of the recent drought, areas of the lake that had been submerged are now surfacing.
A number of people called to report the sighting of the remains, according to the sheriff.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will send a boat for the sheriff’s office and a forensic expert from the Medical Examiner’s office to use on Tuesday, the sheriff said.
“We plan to excavate the body parts that we can see and hopefully find any others that might be there,” Kerns said.
“I am hopeful that we can identify remains because of the number of teeth that were found.”
Meanwhile OSBI Agent Graham said he will be waiting for the information from the medical examiners office.
“We won’t know anything until the M.E.’s office comes out.” Graham said.
