U.S. Marshals apprehend alleged McAlester kidnapper

McALESTER — The United States Marshals apprehended an alleged McAlester kidnapper early Thursday morning with the help of McAlester police.

Darryl Emanuel Bickham Jr., 29, of McAlester, was charged Tuesday in Pittsburg County District Court in two separate cases with felony counts of kidnapping, domestic abuse assault and battery, larceny form a person, robbery by force or fear and second degree burglary.

A warrant was issued for Bickham’s arrest and he was apprehended early Thursday morning, according to Pittsburg County Undersheriff Richard Bedford.

“The crime he is being charged with — kidnapping — met the criteria for the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to apprehend him,” Bedford said. “The warrant for his arrest was issued out of Pittsburg County.”

Bedford said Pittsburg County sheriff deputy James Holloway is assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. “Holloway and the members of the task force apprehended Bickham early Thursday morning with the assistance of McAlester police.” The undersheriff said Beckham was arrested in a trailer home about 10 miles west of Stuart in neighboring Hughes County.

According to court records, Bickham allegedly held a woman hostage in an apartment on Main Street in McAlester on Feb. 13. The woman told police Bickham pushed her on a bed, stomped the back of her head with his foot and threatened her with a knife, a police affidavit states. Bickham also allegedly “made her strip down naked” and locked her in a bathroom for over an hour, the affidavit states.

Bickham then allegedly made the woman sit in a chair and would not let her leave, the affidavit states. The woman told police that Bickham “kept her in the apartment and told her to try and leave out the door and he would kill her,” the affidavit states.

The following day, Bickham allegedly took the woman’s cell phone, bank card, work keys and house keys, according to the affidavit. The woman told police that before Bickham left the apartment the next day, he allegedly told her “if he came back to the apartment tonight and she was not there that he ... would burn her house down.”

A few days later, McAlester police investigated another incident involving Bickham. According to a police affidavit in that case, Bickham allegedly assaulted another woman in the Wendy’s parking lot in McAlester on Feb. 18. He allegedly stole the woman’s car keys, cell phone and bit her on her back, the affidavit states. He also allegedly threatened her with more physical violence.

Bickham is currently in custody at the Pittsburg County jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond and was unavailable for comment at presstime.

If convicted, he is facing up to life in prison.
