NORMAN —
Oklahoma will face Notre Dame for the first time since 1999 on Saturday.
The last meeting was Bob Stoops' fourth game as OU's head coach and the 34-30 loss in South Bend, Ind., was his initial as a head coach.
He hasn't forgotten about it.
"As much as anything, I recall trying to teach and get our players to learn how to win. They hadn't won. They were beaten down and for five straight years had losing records. Nobody believed in them," Stoops said on Monday. "At whatever point in the game, we're up 17 points. I think it was in the second quarter. I look around and I have a bunch of guys laughing and giggling. I'm like, shoot, these guys have no idea how to win and how hard it's gonna be to finish the game out.
"Sure enough, they come back and end up beating us. We talked about that in the meeting room on Monday. We had to learn how to win and not be satisfied."
The Sooners are 143-35 under Stoops.
