McALESTER —
The McAlester Fire Department responded to a fire call at Berry Plastics in the Steven Taylor Industrial Park in McAlester on Monday.
A 55 gallon drum of liquid ink caught fire, according to MFD Assistant Fire Chief Ralph Jernigen.
The call came in at 2:16 p.m. and first responders arrived on scene within five minutes, Jernigen said. Firefighters worked until 5 p.m., Jernigen said.
MFD responded with 9 firefighters, three engines, a ladder truck and an ambulance, Jernigen said. There were no injuries reported as a result of the blaze and the estimated cost of damages is between $5,000 and $10,000, Jernigen said.
McAlester firefighters were able to contain the flames to the one drum, according to Jernigen, although surrounding areas may have suffered smoke damage.
