Billy Ray ‘Pete’ Autrey
Billy Ray “Pete” Autrey, 80, lifelong resident of McAlester, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester with Bob Pate, David Harris and Ron Wilder officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born March 12, 1929, in Tannehill, to Ray and Carmen (Dobbs) Autrey, he was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and also served in the Navy. He married Margaret Harris on June 15, 1953, in Hartshorne. He retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and enjoyed traveling with senior citizen groups and going to casinos.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Autrey, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Bruce Morse, of McAlester; three grandchildren, Jamie Clifton, Kameron Collins and Aaron McCarty; one great-granddaughter, Madison Clifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ann Autrey, of Conroe, Texas, and one sister, Mary Nash, of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Carmen Autrey; son, Robert Autrey; sisters, Oleta Terry, Norma Spence; brothers, E.W. Autrey, Leroy Autrey; maternal grandparents, Walter and Etta Dobbs, and paternal grandparents, Fate and Florence Vaughn.
