George W. Smith Jr., 53, of Durant, formerly of McAlester, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Denver.
Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Kim Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Ulan Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born June 23, 1955, in Grapevine, Texas, he was the son of George Sr. and Retha Ellen (Snow) Smith. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Philip and Amanda Smith, of Durant, and Mitchell Etheridge, Magnolia, Texas; parents, Retha and Jim Boggess, of Yukon.
Also, five grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Don Williams, of McAlester, Sandra and Tony Bond, Branson, Mo., and Bobbi Jones, of Vian; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Veronica Boggess, of Yukon, Gary and Carrie Boggess, of Chickasha, James and Jennifer Boggess, of Piedmont, and Jimmy and Vera Boggess, of Chickasha; 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Smith Sr.; maternal grandparents, Maudie Bice and Henry Snow; paternal grandparents, Mattie and Rufus Smith, and stepdaughter, Belinda Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Glynn Whitaker, Abe Hester, Albert Kelso, David Flick and Richard Everett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Truman Kelso, James Boggess, Gary Boggess, Larry Boggess, Jimmy Boggess, Will Roberts and Joe Ward.

Violet Lavon Weathers, 71, of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Eufaula.
Graveside services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at Palestine Cemetery in Quinton with Pastor Ralph Adcock officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
