‘Big N’ Grant “Eugene” Ford, 60, of Kinta, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at his home.
Funeral service were at 1 today at Quinton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Ford and Robert Carney officiating. Burial was at Quinton City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory of Stigler.
Born June 18, 1948, in Bascom, he was the son of Grant and Truette (Spicer) Ford. He grew up in the Quinton area and attended Quinton School until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1968.
He served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970 with an honorable discharge. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and two Vietnam Service medals.
His employment included the Army Ammunition Depot, road construction, and also a coal mine supervisor for several coal mines, until his medical condition forced his retirement in 1985.
He spent much time traveling across the United States with his wife, Elizabeth, family, and friends. He loved the beauty of nature and the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He spent much time building his home, doing woodwork and other projects such as ranching and gardening with his wife. His greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends and his two dogs.
He was of Seventh-Day Adventist Faith and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and supporter of the Paralyzed Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Dimples” Ford, of the home; two sons, Micheal Ford and Janice, of Quinton, and Richard Ford and wife, Sonja, of Kinta; his mother, Truette Ford and husband, Herman Ford, of Kinta.
Also, two brothers, Mike Ford and wife, Heather, of Wardville, and Carl Ford and wife, Lori, of Kinta; two sisters, Lesa Shelton and husband, Wesley, of Kinta, and Joan Price and husband, Gene, of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Jessie, Cody, Casey, Rory, Frankie, Dylan, and Sara Beth; one great-grandchild, Andrew Ford.
And, sister-in-law and husband, Tracy and Will Sauls; brother-in-law and wife, Jake and Tania Shore; brother-in-law, John Ingleson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends, and a co-grandparent, Gayle Jones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grant Ford; nephew, Tyler Ford, and grandparents, Charlie and Maude Ford and Alvin and Maude Spicer.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Brandon Shelton, Jeremy Ford, Chase Ford, Mathew McDaniel, and nieces, Jennifer Wilkett, and Amber Shelton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be nephew Allen Cooper, Texas Allen, Eddie Mathis, Donnie Mathis, Jimmy Stephens, Sherman Stockton, and Carl Oxford.
