Alva Lucille (Askew) Plummer

Alva Lucille (Askew) Plummer, 88, of McAlester, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at a local nursing home.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at North Town Church of Christ with Steve Weeks officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born April 29, 1921, in Canadian, she was the daughter of William Daniel and Kate Weeks Janeway. She married Perry Q. Askew in August 1945 in Durant, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1961.

During World War II she taught school in Mekka. She worked in the cafeteria of the United States Naval Ammunition Depot for 10 years and retired in 1975.

She married Neil Plummer on Aug. 26, 1975, in Checotah, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1990.

She was Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Canadian and was a member of the North Town Church of Christ.

She lived the majority of her life in Pittsburg County.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Rhonda Askew, Burton, W.Va., Danny and Angela Askew, Fredricksburg, Va., and Richard and Karen Askew, of McAlester; a grandson, Christopher Askew, Fredricksburg, Va.

Also, four granddaughters and spouses, Kerry and Roger Barrett, Phoenix, Sharla and Greg Porter, Glendale, Ariz., Samantha Askew, Gainesville, Va., and Allison Askew, Fredricksburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Roger and Nathaniel Barrett, Phoenix, and Emma Porter, of Glendale, Ariz., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Ramsey, Margaret West and Marie Starks.

Pallbearers will be Don Brewer, Oben Weeks, Earl Weeks, Christopher Askew, Bill Coop and W. R. Weeks.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
