Mark Sherrill

Mark Brent Sherrill, 45, of McAlester, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

The family will receive visitors from 4:30 until 6 p.m. this evening at Bishop Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of McAlester. The Rev. Micheal Calhoun will officiate with the eulogy by the Rev. Ken Gazaway. Burial will be in the Sherrill Mausoleum at Oak Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born Dec. 17, 1963, in Oklahoma City, to Kenneth Wayne and Linda Curliss Sherrill, he moved with his parents to the McAlester area. He attended Frink Grade School and then graduated from Savanna High School in the class of 1982. He married Twylia Baker on Jan. 9, 1982, in McAlester and attended Oklahoma State University, receiving his Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine in 1989.

He worked from 1989 until 1991 at Windsor Animal Clinic in Coalgate, and then moved to McAlester where he with his two sisters ran market operations at the McAlester Stockyards. From 1995 to 2000 he also handled the market operations for the Ada Stockyards. He was also a rancher and did order buying of cattle.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester, a 32nd degree Masonic member of the South McAlester Blue Lodge No. 96 and the McAlester Scottish Rite Consistory. He was a member of the American Veterinarian Medical Association, the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and past President of the Pittsburg County Cattlemen’s Association. He was a very avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, snow skiing and spending vacations with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Twylia Sherrill, of the home; two daughters, Coleen Marie Sherrill, of Moore, Megan Lynn Sherrill, of McAlester; a son, Lucas Brent Sherrill, of the home; two grandchildren, Cayden Leigh McClendon and Ava Anne Aldridge, of McAlester.

And, his parents, Kenny and Linda Sherrill, of McAlester, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Lindsey Grant, of McAlester, Laura Sherrill and husband, Todd Shelton, of Carthage, Texas.

Pallbearers include Tom Feagins, George Tarr, Ronnie Austin, Mike Gaudazsky, Mark Harper, Ote Berry and Terry Chapman.

Honorary pallbearers include Bill Murdaugh, George Tarr, Mark Hopper, Kevin Magby, Richard Magby, Dr. Chad Crawley, Dr. Justin Smith, Dr. Troy Shelby, Bud Sherrill, Todd Shelton, Lindsey Grant, Lee Moody, Kenny Adams, Kim Beal, Ross Selman and Rusty Roberts.

The family requests memorials be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 3800 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK, 73112-6506.
