Mack Thomas Jeffrey, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009.

Celebration of life was Nov. 7 at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel with Jim Tarter officiating. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo.

Born Nov. 22, 1911, in Blacksprings, Ark., he was the son of Joseph Lee and Callie Florence (Weehunt) Jeffrey. He grew up in Wilburton. He was the first in his family to attend college and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Southeastern State College.

He began his career as a teacher/principal in Fanshawe. It was there that he met Elouise Duckworth, whom he married on Jan. 10, 1941. He earned a master’s degree in engineering from Oklahoma A&M.;

During World War II, he was in the Army Air Corps and served in England, reaching the rank of master sergeant.

In 1945, he began working as an electrical engineer for P.S.O in McAlester, and in 1959, he was transferred to Hugo. After 33 years with P.S.O. He retired in 1976.

After retirement he worked for Security First National Bank as an appraiser.

He served his community in Lion’s Club and as a member of the Hugo School Board. He was a member of the Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.

Following the death of his wife, he married Ernestine Beach in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elouise; four sisters, and one brother.
