Alta Lee Edwards

Alta Lee Edwards, 87, of Union, Mo., formerly of McAlester, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at a local St. Clair nursing facility.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Bishop Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jim Morgan and the Rev. A.L. Mullins officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Haywood, under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born April 3, 1922, in Haywood, to Charles and Allie Weston Hubbard, she grew up in the Haywood area and attended schools there. She married Don Edwards on Aug. 6, 1939, in McAlester and they made their home here. She worked as a housekeeper at McAlester West Hospital for about 15 years. She was a member of the Fellowship Christian Church for many years.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Shelly Edwards, of Calvin; a daughter, Donna Tucker, of Union, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Edwards, of Oklahoma City; daughter at heart, Patty Patterson, of Oklahoma City; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Rainwater, of Raton, N.M., Evelyn Wingfield, of Moore, June and Noble Rogers, of Booneville, Ark.; three sisters-in-law, Ellen Nichols, of Spencer, Alma Golden, of Oklahoma City, Annabel Malidora, of Enumclaw, Wash.

And, 11 grandchildren, Gwenita and husband, Terry, Edwin and wife, Patti, Dena and husband, Joe, Wayne Jay, Sonja and husband, Michael, Keith Don, Shane, Robi and husband, Russ, Jared, Dodie and husband, Kevin, Jason and wife, Amber; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Edwards; three sons, Gwen Don Edwards, Jerry Lee Edwards and Clyde Keith Edwards; a grandson, Clyde Keith Edwards Jr., and five brothers, Doyle Hubbard, Preston Hubbard, C.L. Hubbard, Clyde Hubbard and an infant brother.

Pallbearers include Doug Nichols, David Nichols, Ricky Golden, Larry Hubbard, Dennis Hubbard and Dewayne Hubbard.

Honorary pallbearers include grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
