Two Wilburton seniors were recognized as Students of the Month for September by members of the Wilburton Kiwanis Club. The students were special guests during the club’s Wednesday, September 19 meeting held in the Student Life Center on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Pictured from left are Spencer Bray and Brittney Helmert. Bray is the son of Joe and Yvette Bray. He attends Wilburton High School where he is a member of the Digger baseball team, the Digger marching band, vocal music and speech. He was named All-District vocalist for three years. Bray serves as worship leader at Cavalry Baptist Church in Wilburton. His hobbies include playing baseball and table tennis, playing the piano and watching college football. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in the computer science field to become a computer scientist. Brittney Helmert is the daughter of Lana Helmert and David Helmert. She attends Wilburton High School where she is a member of FCCLA, FBLA, speech and drama and yearbook. She has been a football homecoming queen attendant, received the Who’s Who math award, was 2nd runner-up to Miss Oklahoma Teen and is the current reigning Miss Oklahoma Teen Covergirl. Helmert has been involved in a water drive with KiBios to support Oklahoma firefighters. Her favorite things to do are cooking, writing and spending time with family and friends. She plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College and then transfer to a university and pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
