Two Wilburton High School seniors were recognized as Students of the Month for December by members of the Wilburton Kiwanis Club. The students were special guests during the club’s Wednesday, January 16 meeting held in the Student Life Center on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Pictured left, Deric Scott, is the son of Duane and Tammy Scott. He attends Wilburton High School where he has been a member of the Digger baseball and basketball teams and a member of FFA. Scott attends Centerpoint Baptist Church north of Wilburton. His hobbies include four-wheeling, hunting and fishing. He plans to start a career at National Oilwell Varco upon graduation. Pictured right, Haley Meyers is the daughter of Robert and Cheryl Meyers. She attends Wilburton High School where she is a member of the Lady Digger softball and basketball teams. She is active in FBLA, FCA, speech and debate, student council and vocal music. She currently serves as senior class vice-president, has attended Oklahoma Girls State, and will be serving as a page in the Oklahoma House of Representatives later this spring. She has been named to the superintendent’s honor roll and is a member of the National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, National Forensic League and the National Honor Society of High School Scholars. Meyers is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilburton. She is a volunteer coach for youth basketball and is an aide in Mrs. Tyler’s 5th grade class. Her hobbies include riding four-wheelers, hunting, playing sports and spending time with family and friends. She plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College upon graduation then transfer to Northeastern Oklahoma State University to complete a bachelor’s degree.
